Where Woodworking Begins

Collingwoodartscenter SIA teaches the fundamentals of woodworking to people in Latvia who want to build with their own hands. No experience required.

Woodworking workshop with organized hand tools and wooden workbench

Built on Real Experience

Collingwoodartscenter SIA started because we've seen too many people think woodworking is only for professionals. It's not. Anyone can learn.

Why We Started

We're based in Latvia, where garages and country houses are common. Many people have space but don't know where to begin with woodworking. We've trained hundreds of beginners since we started. They've built cutting boards, shelves, tables. Most importantly, they've discovered they're actually capable of creating something real with wood and hand tools.

What We've Learned

Beginners don't need fancy equipment or expensive workshops. They need clarity. Clear instruction on grip. Clear explanation of why a saw cuts the way it does. We've narrowed down what actually matters when you're learning, and we focus only on those fundamentals. Your first project matters more than your tenth, so we build the foundation properly.

Our Method

How We Teach Woodworking

Four steps guide every person from zero experience to completing their first project with confidence.

1

Essential Hand Tools

You'll learn the core tools: saw, chisel, plane, hammer, clamps. We teach how each one works, how to hold it properly, and why technique matters more than strength. Most beginners are surprised how simple it gets once the fundamentals click.

2

First Cutting Board

Your first project isn't complicated. A cutting board teaches joinery, finishing, and sharpening. It's practical—you'll actually use it. It's forgiving—minor mistakes don't ruin the project. And it's achievable in a reasonable timeframe without a massive workshop.

3

Simple Furniture

Once you've built a cutting board, simple furniture projects become approachable. We teach small tables, shelves, and storage boxes that expand your skills without overwhelming you. Each project builds on what you've already learned.

4

Workshop Setup

You don't need a dedicated studio. We show you how to set up a functional workspace in a Latvian garage or country house with limited space. Organization, safety, and tool storage don't require luxury—they require smart planning, which we've figured out for you.

What Drives Us

Our Core Principles

We believe in three things that guide everything collingwoodartscenter SIA does. These aren't just words—they shape how we teach and what we teach.

Clear Teaching

We don't assume knowledge. We don't skip steps. Every material we create explains the why, not just the how. You won't feel lost.

Practical Focus

Theory matters, but building matters more. You'll learn by doing. Real projects. Real tools. Real results you can see and hold.

Latvian Reality

We're not teaching workshop ideals. We're teaching what actually works in a Latvian garage or country house where space and budget are real constraints.
